Leadership Development
“I couldn't possibly recommend an intern experience more highly than that of LCHT's Leadership Development Program. Not only did I gain incredible knowledge about human trafficking and related fields, but it was an honor to work alongside a team that was both brilliant and humble. From the moment you step through the door, you're treated as an equal, respected as an individual, & given full confidence that you can make a difference.” –Brandi S.
Through the Leadership Development Program, LCHT combines an educational approach to an internship focused on the study of human trafficking with on-the-ground practice in such areas as community awareness, development, communications, and research. Interns receive extensive training during the summer session, beginning with a two-day orientation and continuing through weekly educational meetings. Throughout the summer session, key members of the Colorado anti-trafficking movement provide interns with opportunities to learn from the experiences of other organizations and individuals.
Past interns have applied while attending academic institutions, including Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Colorado–Boulder, University of Colorado at Denver, Regis University, Colorado Christian University, Colorado State University, and the University of Denver. LCHT coordinates with academic institutions to help students meet academic requirements. We also serve as a non-profit site for the AmeriCorps Learn and Serve Program, which provides students with financial resources during their time of service with LCHT.
“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with LCHT. I feel I have found an organization that is truly innovative in its approach but also grounded in the community and work on the ground. The multi-disciplinary lenses I’ve gained in my work with LCHT have truly influenced how I understand my graduate work.” –Rhonda Y.
LCHT has been fortunate to work with nearly 70 interns in our Leadership Development Program since May 2005.
We value each intern’s contributions to the organization and to the broader anti-trafficking movement. LCHT staff members hope to impart their knowledge and lessons learned as interns move forward in their careers and become leaders in the field of human trafficking or related areas. Throughout the Leadership Development Program, interns have opportunities to develop professional skills, such as understanding leadership and work styles, building a human rights-focused resume, developing talking points for public events, and conducting community-based research.
